Congratulations to the Mahtomedi Varsity Esports Team, who used strategy, skill, and creative thinking to take home the All-Around State Championship at the Minnesota Varsity League (MNVL) State Finals in St. Cloud, March 13-14!
Our Zephyrs brought home first place in the following categories:
Chess: Jerrick Brown (Class of 2026)
Minecraft Bedwars: Bryan Brown (Class of 2029), Taelin Richmond (Class of 2026), Malachi Lim (Class of 2026), and Jerrick Brown
The Mahtomedi team was also recognized as the All-Around State Champion, awarded to the program that earns the most points across all qualifying teams.
Esports (electronic sports) is a varsity-level high school program for competitive video gaming supported by Mahtomedi Community Education for students in grades 7-12. Esports challenges students to think strategically, solve problems in real time, and collaborate. The team is advised by Mahtomedi High School Math Teacher Mike Isola, with chess coaching from Noah House (Class of 2025 student and 2025 State Chess Champion).
Mahtomedi Community Education is proud to support opportunities like esports that allow students to explore their interests, think creatively, and push their skills to new levels.
