Knauss Family

For the Knauss family, Missoula isn’t just a theatre experience; it’s part of their story. What began years ago when their oldest son stepped on stage as a first grader in “Beauty Lou & the Country Beast” has grown into a true family tradition of giving back to Missoula.

This summer, that commitment came full circle:

  • The family hosted one of the traveling actor/directors as a homestay for the tenth consecutive year

  • Ivan (MHS Class of 2029) returned to Missoula as an Assistant Director

  • Xavier (MHS Class of 2025) helped support the program through childcare

Behind the scenes, their mom, Chantell Knauss, has helped guide Missoula's success in Mahtomedi for more than a decade, serving as Missoula chair through 2025 and supporting the program's continued growth in partnership with Mahtomedi PTO and Mahtomedi Community Education.

“Missoula is the perfect opportunity for students to ‘try on’ theatre and see if it’s a good fit,” Ms. Knauss shared.

That opportunity made a lasting impact close to home. After being introduced through Missoula, Xavier went on to participate in theatre throughout middle and high school, performing in all 13 productions during his time at Mahtomedi High School.

And the impact reaches even further.

“It also gives adults the opportunity to see and be a part of live theatre. Some adults may not ever have seen a live theatre production if it wasn't for their student being involved,” Ms. Knauss shared.

We're grateful for families like the Knauss family, whose generosity, time, and passion help bring meaningful experiences to life for our community!
