Dear MHS Band Students, Parents and Guardians!

Welcome to the 2022- 2023 school year!  The MHS Band Program continues the tradition of providing its members with quality musical and educational experiences that are fun, memorable and challenging. And let’s face it, we have conquered a couple of very challenging years. But we are rising above all of that and moving to a new, brighter future. Helen Keller once said: “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided!” That is what I hope to drive us this year!

If you have questions about specific MHS band things, please refer to this link! It provides expectations, experiences, information and a schedule for the year!

This year will be a wonderful year of growth, learning, community and striving for excellence. We will spend time developing our musical skills, our leadership skills, and our unity-skills! This year will be all about community building and creating OUR sound…not the sounds of past bands…but OUR sounds!  And remember that “excellence does not require perfection.” Let’s just strive for excellence! :)

Being a member of this band requires commitment, work ethic and a positive attitude on the part of every individual. These are all essential components that are necessary for success and enjoyment, and are the educational outcomes developed in each individual band member. The rewards of being part of this ensemble are great, but with great reward comes great responsibility.  ☺

If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please contact Ms. Goucher at

Again, I welcome you with joy, enthusiasm and positivity to the 2022-2023 MHS Bands! A special welcome to our new freshmen members, our new MHS Band students and our new Mahtomedi students! May your year be successful in every musical, academic and social way!

Our School
Mahtomedi High School has a heart for innovation, provides rigorous academic coursework, and supports students to explore extracurricular opportunities. Our teachers and staff are passionate and dedicated people who explore innovative ideas and teach our students new ways of thinking to support them in whatever career path they choose. Students engage in project-based learning to solve real-world problems using industry-standard technology in the nation’s first M.I.T. certified FabLab housed in a public school. Fine arts is a vital and robust part of the High School and our visual and performing arts classes include ceramics, digital art, choir, band, and event broadcasting. We also offer Flex Time during the school day when students may receive academic support, engage in college and career exploration, and connect over common interests. Over 90% of our student community engages in extracurricular activities that range from athletics to robotics. Students’ social and emotional learning is addressed through various avenues including a restorative practices approach for student behavior and through our Zephyr Link Crew mentoring program.
