Mike Isola
Me, my wife Alyssa, our son Chase, and our dog Talisa
Hello and welcome to the 2020-21 school year!  I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.  This is surely going to be one of the most unusual school years we have ever experienced.  What I want you to know most of all as we progress through this trying year, is that I am here for you, the students, to support you in any way and as many ways as I can manage.  I will be as flexible as I can manage and to check in with you regularly.  I will also be challenging you to think about mathematics in new ways, though I will try to not overwhelm you.  If you ever need help or are struggling with a topic, please let me know as soon as possible so we can work together to help build your understanding of said topic.  Again, I am here to support you.

This is my third year teaching high school math, and my second at Mahtomedi.  When I'm not in the classroom, you can likely find me spending time with my wife, our newborn son Chase, and my dog, playing soccer or football, coaching football, relaxing while playing video games, and getting out into the wilderness for some camping.  Admittedly, all of that extra stuff has decreased significantly since the birth of our son!

In addition to teaching Algebra II and Geometry Concepts at Mahtomedi, I also coach 9th grade football with the school.

The last thing I will leave you with for now, is to again emphasize that I am here to help and support you.  There is a sign in my classroom that says "Mistakes are... Expected. Respected. Inspected. Corrected."  You will probably make a mistake this year, and you will probably not understand something right away.  Please know that this is part of the process, and part of your brains growing.  How you respond to a mistake made will show when there is growth taking place.

I'm looking forward to a great year!

Mr. Isola

Our School
Mahtomedi High School has a heart for innovation, provides rigorous academic coursework, and supports students to explore extracurricular opportunities. Our teachers and staff are passionate and dedicated people who explore innovative ideas and teach our students new ways of thinking to support them in whatever career path they choose. Students engage in project-based learning to solve real-world problems using industry-standard technology in the nation’s first M.I.T. certified FabLab housed in a public school. Fine arts is a vital and robust part of the High School and our visual and performing arts classes include ceramics, digital art, choir, band, and event broadcasting. We also offer Flex Time during the school day when students may receive academic support, engage in college and career exploration, and connect over common interests. Over 90% of our student community engages in extracurricular activities that range from athletics to robotics. Students’ social and emotional learning is addressed through various avenues including a restorative practices approach for student behavior and through our Zephyr Link Crew mentoring program.
